VIRTUAL ENTERPRISES: WHAT IS A BUSINESS MENTOR
Our fantastic Business Mentors provide much of the hands-on business learning that is critical to the success of the VE. They reinforce the teacher/trainer's approach so the collaboration is a great way to enhance the learning experience!
Because each VE develops its own special relationship with its Business Mentor, both decide what level of information, advice and mentoring is needed to support the different business functions of the VE. For example:
- Information on business goals, plans, staffing structure, salaries, procedures, etc
- Advice on VE operations, problems and difficulties
- How to develop a business plan or marketing strategy
- A return-to-industry program to update skills and knowledge of teachers/lecturers
- Information on industry standards / regulations at state or national levels
- Project work, market research or industry assignments
- On site student visits and work placements
- Attendance at VE Management / staff meetings
- Encouraging participants to apply for positions appropriate to their skills
- Helping evaluate participants' progress
- Donating second hand equipment / furniture
- Assisting with resume-writing or interviews
- Sponsorship of, or participation at VE Trade Fairs, launches, etc
